According to CNN, the incident occurred on BA flight 252, which departed from Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos on July 23, making a scheduled stopover in Nassau, Bahamas, before continuing its journey to London. Due to undisclosed circumstances, British Airways was unable to provide its regular food service, leaving passengers on the 12-hour journey without their expected inflight meal.

Quick-thinking crew members sprang into action to ensure passengers had something to eat. While the airline did not specify the alternative meal, social media posts suggest that the airline’s employees made an impromptu Kentucky Fried Chicken run during the layover in the Bahamas.

British Airways humorously acknowledged the unusual situation in a pun-filled statement, saying: “We apologize to customers that their full meal service was not available, and we had to wing it on this occasion. We’re sorry if we ruffled any feathers.”

Passengers took to social media to share their experiences, with one Twitter user @aktivandrew tweeting “British Airways just landed AT Heathrow Airport after a 12.5-hour flight BA252 from Turks and Caicos with no catering! BA had to serve KFC at Nassau, giving some lucky passengers 1 piece of chicken. The container with the plane catering wasn’t chilled, so all thrown away!!” Another Twitter user, @Hanchell, referred to an article about the incident from travel site One Mile At a Time and commented: “It was the best KFC I’ve ever had”.

British Airways did not provide specific details about the catering problem that caused the meal shortage. One social media post mentioned a potential issue with refrigeration. Upon arrival in London, the airline issued refreshment vouchers to passengers as an apology for the unexpected culinary adventure.
